Navy Locksmith works out of 2800 Juniper St in Fairfax. This is the area we operate from: rekeys, lock repairs, storefront hardware and car keys, handled at your door rather than over a shop counter.
We cover the City of Fairfax and Fairfax County, so the answer is yes either way. What we ask for on the call is a cross street or a landmark, because “Fairfax, VA” covers far more ground than most people expect.
Our own address is the example. 2800 Juniper St, Fairfax, VA 22031 is a Fairfax postal address that actually sits in Merrifield, near the Mosaic District, several miles from the city itself. The City of Fairfax is an independent city of about six square miles with its own government, entirely surrounded by the county, and plenty of mail addressed to “Fairfax” lands in neither.
It changes the job as well as the drive. Old Town Fairfax and the streets around it hold much older building stock than the newer condo and townhouse developments out towards Fair Oaks and Fairfax Circle. Knowing roughly where you are tells us what we are likely to be working on before anyone sets off. An original mortise lock and a 2015 keyed deadbolt are not the same repair.
Each one is quoted once we know the hardware, the door and what actually went wrong.
The most common Fairfax call by some distance. Where the cylinders are sound, rekeying changes the working key without new hardware. See residential lock rekeying for how it is done.
Non-destructive entry wherever the lock allows it. Bring ID and something that ties you to the address. We ask on every call, including our own neighborhood.
Adding a deadbolt to a door that never had one, or replacing a failed unit. Older doors often need the prep checked first. Detail on our deadbolt installation page.
Cylinders, closers and exit devices along Fairfax Boulevard and Chain Bridge Road. Where several doors share a keying plan, master key systems is usually the right starting point.
Student and short-tenancy housing around George Mason turns over on a predictable cycle. Rekeying between tenants costs less than replacing hardware every time.
Cut and programmed at the vehicle, including driveways and apartment lots. See car key replacement across Northern Virginia for what each key type requires.
Most locks can be opened non-destructively (picked, bypassed or manipulated) and left working afterwards. Drilling is a last resort, not a default, because it means paying for a replacement cylinder on top of the visit.
You are as likely to be locked out of a detached house in the county as a suite in an office park, and they are different jobs. A residential deadbolt usually opens non-destructively. A commercial mortise, or a suite inside a managed building, may need the property manager involved before anyone can start.
Sometimes drilling is the only option: a high-security cylinder with anti-drill protection, a bolt already snapped inside the housing, some smart lock failures. When that happens we say so before starting, and explain what replacing the hardware will involve.
We do not publish a flat lockout price, because the figure depends on the lock type, whether it opens without damage, the time of day and whether anything needs replacing. Describing the door and what happened gets you a realistic number on the phone instead of a surprise at the door.
The single most common disappointment with a smart lock is buying one that the door cannot take. Before recommending anything, four things get checked:
The other frequent call is a deadbolt that will only throw if the door is pushed or lifted. That is almost always alignment rather than a failed lock, because seasonal movement shifts the frame and the bolt stops meeting the strike cleanly. Adjusting it costs a fraction of replacement, and replacement would not have fixed it. Our residential locksmith service covers the full range, and if a key has snapped in the cylinder, broken key extraction comes first.
Fairfax business hardware splits fairly cleanly. The retail and restaurant frontages along Fairfax Boulevard, Chain Bridge Road and the Fairfax Circle approaches run aluminum storefront doors: mortise cylinders, closers and exit devices taking constant daily use. Office and medical suites in the surrounding parks are mostly lever sets and cylindrical locks, often inside a building access system controlled by a property manager.
For storefronts, the recurring problem is not a failed lock. It is a closer that has drifted out of adjustment or a strike that has moved, so the latch stops catching and staff fall back on the deadbolt all day. Correcting the alignment restores the door properly; a new cylinder changes nothing.
Where a business wants staff access separated from manager access, or needs keys controlled after someone leaves, that is a keying plan rather than a hardware purchase, and worth setting up once, properly. Our commercial locksmith service covers the same scope, and where an exit device is binding or failing to latch, panic bar repair is the more specific place to start.
Vehicle work happens at the car, so a driveway, a shopping-center lot or an apartment parking area all work equally well. What the job involves depends entirely on what the vehicle uses.
A plain mechanical key can be cut to code or taken from the lock. A transponder key has to be cut and then programmed so the immobiliser accepts it. Proximity and push-to-start systems need the fob paired to the car, and some manufacturers require every existing key present at the time so the old ones can be invalidated. That is the point at which “I have lost one of two keys” and “I have lost the only key” become very different jobs.
Photo ID and proof the vehicle is yours are required every time: title, registration or insurance in your name. Full detail sits on our automotive locksmith page, and if the key broke off in the ignition rather than going missing, car ignition repair is the better starting point.
None of it is required to get help. It simply means we can tell you what the job involves before anyone is dispatched, instead of after.
Yes. Navy Locksmith operates from 2800 Juniper St #2, Fairfax, VA 22031. It is a mobile service, so the work is carried out at your property or vehicle rather than at a shop counter, but Fairfax is where the business is based rather than somewhere we travel to.
Both. The City of Fairfax is an independent city of about six square miles surrounded by Fairfax County, and many addresses that read "Fairfax, VA" sit in the county rather than the city. When you call, the nearest cross street or landmark is more useful to us than the city name on your mail.
Rekeying is usually the better option when the existing hardware is in good condition and suits the door. It changes which key operates the cylinder without replacing the lock, so it costs less and takes less time. Replacement makes sense when the hardware is worn, damaged, non-standard, or you want a higher grade of lock.
Not always. Four things decide it: door thickness, backset, the existing prep from the previous lock, and whether the door is already binding in the frame. Older solid doors sometimes fall outside the range a smart deadbolt is built for. We check all four before recommending a unit rather than after fitting one.
Usually not. When a bolt only throws under pressure, the cause is normally the door or frame having shifted so the bolt no longer lines up with the strike. Seasonal movement does this to older doors. Adjusting the strike or easing the door normally fixes it, and replacing the lock would not have solved the problem.
Often yes, though it depends on the vehicle. Losing the only key is a different job from losing one of two, because some manufacturers require every existing key present so the old ones can be invalidated. Tell us the make, model and year when you call. Photo ID and proof the vehicle is yours are required in all cases.
No. Posted hours are Sunday to Friday, 8:00 am to 11:00 pm, and Saturday from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm, so Saturday daytime falls outside them. It is worth knowing before you wait on a call back rather than finding out an hour later.
Tell us the hardware, the door and what happened. We will explain what the job involves before anyone is sent.
